The Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program was created in 1983. A GAL volunteer is a court appointed special advocate – a trained community volunteer who speaks for abused and neglected children during judicial proceedings. Working along with attorneys and social workers, the GAL volunteer offers an informed recommendation to the judge on what is best for the child’s future and personal and social growth.

How do Friends help Guardians?

Friends of GAL help provide various services and opportunities for positive development of the abused and neglect children. In addition, the Friends of GAL promotes community awareness and encourages participation as a GAL volunteer. The Friends organization also provides financial support for GAL volunteers and staff to attend training seminars and conferences.

The Friends of Moore Guardian ad Litem is an all volunteer, non-profit organization created to support the Guardian ad Litem program in Moore County and the children they represent.
